Role Description:
The mission of the Nursery Director is to create a positive
Nursery experience that helps attract and keep families with infants and
toddlers at HUMC. We desire our Nursery to be a great strength of our church.
Our shared goal is to consistently provide a “Nursery of Excellence.” The Nursery Director identifies, develops,
trains, and schedules all Nursery workers (paid and volunteer) for all nursery
events (Wed Night, Sunday Morning, Wed Morning, Funerals, Weddings, and special
events as defined by the pastor.) The Nursery Director will be that consistent,
loving, competent, caring person that each parent sees on Wednesday night and
Sunday morning.
Position
Accountabilities:
Hand’s On Activities:
· Oversee the safety and wellbeing of all the children in
the nursery and be the trained first responder for all safety events that
happen in the nursery.
· Be present in the nurseries on Sunday morning from 8:45 am until
12:15 pm and Wed nights (6:30 pm to 9:30 pm)
· Schedule nursery workers and volunteers to cover pastor
approved ministry needs (Wednesdays, Sundays, funerals, weddings special
events, etc…)
· Primary interface with all parents
· Keep Nursery’s stocked with necessary supplies
· Identify any unsafe situations and bring them to the immediate
attention of the Pastor and Church Trustees (including Incident Reporting
system.)
Supervisory Activities:
· Manage the Nursery Budget (staffing and supplies)
· Write and implement Nursery Procedures consistent with HUMC
policies
· Oversee Nursery Assets and identify needs to support a
“Nursery of Excellence.” Rather than just putting up with what we have,
identify what we need.
· Develop staff team of hourly paid employees (training,
etc…)
· Develop and manage administrative system for hourly
employee pay cycle with the HUMC Finance Team.
· Help the Nursery staff, facilities, and procedures stay ahead of
the Church growth (the Nursery must always lead, it cannot lag without
hindering Church growth – you will be our “what’s next” person in the Nursery)
Specific
Requirements:
· Gifted with infants and small children – able to comfort and
engage small children
· Nursing background
· Trustworthy - people will only feel comfortable leaving
their children with people they trust.
· Reliable - your face needs to be the consistent face
parents and visitors see when they come to the highly visible nursery events at
the church.)
· Flexible - we are growing quickly, you must be willing to
work under changing circumstances
· Team builder - you will be building a staff team of nursery
caregivers
· Supervisory experience
Administrative Information:
· Part time position that reports directly to the pastor. In this
role, you are a ministry partner with the pastor.
· Expectation is average 8 hours of work per week (although
we will compensate you as a part-time salaried position). This will grow in the
years ahead as the Church continues to grow.
· Written performance reviews will be done annually by the
pastor
· Role requirement changes, compensation changes, and discipline
issues are managed through the HUMC Staff/Parish Relations Committee in
consultation with the pastor
· Two weeks paid time away per year coordinated through the pastor
